The benefits of customer referrals
I’ve been really excited to share this topic with you. I had a hard time narrowing down what I wanted to share, but these are the biggest, best benefits to customer referrals as a business content writer. Let’s see how many of these you already know!
- You get more clients you like: Typically, the customers who refer their friends to colleagues to you are good clients. Perhaps it’s a personality match, or perhaps this refers more to the niche or project they have you working on. Or maybe it’s both! Regardless, it often means that your queue is going to be loaded with jobs that you enjoy doing. When it comes to getting through a busy month, having exciting writing jobs can make it much easier!
- You get to pick and choose your gigs: If you get enough referrals, and those referrals bring other people, you can often find yourself kept pretty busy! This means that you can avoid taking on random jobs “just to pay the bills”. Or, send that one annoying or frustrating client/job to someone else. Sometimes this is a great way to learn about a specialty or niche, too, if that’s your thing.
- You know you’re doing something right: This is a little obvious, I’m sure, but I think it’s really important to mention! There are so many approaches to business content writing and copywriting that getting positive reviews and referrals can often help you see the proof that you are doing your job well. This is also a great motivator to keep doing your best!
- You get valuable feedback on your work: Not only is a referral going to help you see that you are doing your job right, as I mentioned above, but often a happy client is going to give you feedback on what you are doing well, too. Happy clients tend to offer praise and constructive criticism, so it can be a really helpful way to help improve your skills and your final deliverable!
A happy customer means a healthy business
Not only does a happy customer tend to come back, but they can sometimes bring friends with them! While this is a pretty obvious interpretation, there is also another one. If you have happy customers, you will also likely find that you are enjoying the work that you do. Your emotional health and stability are just as important — if not more so — than your financial health as a career writer!
