How to handle a side hustle with a typical full-time career
Side hustles are wonderful ways to help boost your financial profile and enjoy a creative outlet. If they behave, that is. Sometimes side hustles can get busy or stressful and require more time than you usually have available. What should you do when responsibilities overwhelm you, and you must juggle your side hustle job with a standard full-time career? Read on to find out!
Tips for managing your side hustle
Firstly take a moment to remember that an unruly side hustle is not something that you have caused. It gets out of control just like any other part of your life. How you handle it will help you see how awesome you are!
- Have your side hustle hours strictly scheduled: This is really important. There’s an assumption that you must work extra side hustle hours when things get busy. Managing a full-time career on top of regular life responsibilities is a lot. Don’t make it harder by sacrificing more time to your side hustle. Keep working on it within set hours, and don’t add more. You already have enough to do.
- Add a few hours of side hustle work on your days off: When your full-time career gives you days off, you can work more on your side hustle. Still, ensure that you don’t work too much since a side hustle is supposed to be, well, on the side of your life rather than the main event. Work a few hours on your days off and then your regular scheduled side hustle hours like any other day. Adding that extra time will help you keep on top of things.
- Outsource what you can when needed: This is one of the best parts of a side hustle to me. If there are parts you don’t like or can’t do effectively, outsource them. Some of the most common ways to outsource are having a virtual assistant to do data entry, having a freelance accountant balance your books, etc. This gives you more energy to focus on your main side hustle tasks.
- Check whether you want to keep it as a side hustle: Sometimes, a side hustle can transform itself into something stable enough or profitable enough to become a part-time job or, in some cases, a full-time job. If your side hustle appears to be bursting at the seams with you only “standing in its way” to more success, consider transitioning it to a significant role in your life. I’ll talk more about that next time.
Celebrate your side hustle success
In all honesty, having a too-busy side hustle is a good thing! After all, side hustles are intended initially as easy income working from home. If you’re getting enough business with it that you feel overrun, you’re enjoying great earning potential! Even if you feel stressed or overworked, take at least a few moments and celebrate your success! Having a successful side hustle is a big deal, so treat yourself to the satisfaction that you’re doing something right!
