Is there a future in business content writing?

A futuristic woman with clear glasses on that show computer screens on them.As a freelance business content writer, I’ll admit that this post topic is a little unsettling. A lot, actually. After all, if the answer is “no,” how will I afford to give my cats the life they deserve? It would mean a career change, without question. Here are my thoughts on the subject!

Understanding the world of business content writing

From my point of view, the relevance of content writing for businesses is going to come down to understanding what professionally written content actually does for a business of any kind and any size.

  • The role of content: The content will hook, inform, and entertain the potential buyer from the moment that they arrive on your webpage. Content writing is technically niched within digital marketing, so it does a job similar to a banner or a visual ad that you see online. So, you’ll want to make sure that you’ve got written content to help your buyer see just what kind of a valuable addition they are.
  • The search for good quality content: While you’ll see many people who will advertise themselves as content writers, not all of them are up to writing the right kind of business content. Of course, there is no such thing as the perfect writer for every job. Still, content writing is a particular trade that takes training, patience, attention to detail, and talent. When it’s done wrong, it can hurt your business!
  • The future of online businesses: Since online businesses are going to continuously need to update their content for SEO purposes and keep up with the times and their buyers’ needs, the requirement for quality business content becomes stronger than ever before. As more demand grows, so does the need for experienced professional writers!
  • Text spinners are useless: Some will swear by AI that can take existing content and spin or churn it into brand new content to post on a website. This is often illogical, unprofessional, and a huge dent in your SEO strategy. While some will take this approach, the best choice for the integrity of your business is to take the professional route with a content writer who knows what they’re doing!

So, is there a future in content writing?

In short (kinda,) yes. There is a future in content writing because the world is moving online more and more. Business owners of all kinds are looking for experienced and professional content writers to help them draw in buyers! Whether someone is looking for website content, blog posts, ads, or product descriptions, business content writing is always in demand.  As more businesses jump online, this will continue to increase.

Business content writing is different from creative writing or technical writing. It requires a different approach and a different engagement need. If you’re looking for a profitable career as a writer, this may just be it. Is it easy? No, not at all. However, it will be a worthwhile, future-designed career that will constantly keep you learning new things and supporting businesses that need your services!
