Like a lot of people, I’m sure, the holidays are a favourite time of year for me.  But it’s more than just the celebration of the holiday on a personal level.  For instance, I get to involve myself in other people’s celebrations.  No, I’m not a creepy stalker, I’m talking about working as a freelance writer!   

Over the years, I often find myself working happily away on some fun and interesting holiday-themed writing topics that make it an enjoyable time of year even if I do find myself working through it (PS: I’ve got some tips on how to enjoy some time off this holiday season if you need them!).  Let’s take a look at some of my favourites!

My all-time favourite writing topics during the holiday season

Some topics repeat over and over again, varying in angle from customer to customer, but I do have a few topics that I could write about 50 times and just never tire of them.  

• Unique ways to decorate your home for the holidays: Regardless of the season, one of my favourite things to do is decorate my home.  Garland, tabletop decorations, holiday-themed cutlery, or even something as simple as drawer liners with candy canes is enough to have me pounding out those words as fast and as energetically as I can.  And then, of course, go back and remove my ridiculous amount of exclamation points…

• How to make time for relaxation and recharging: If you read last year’s post, you know that I really cherish taking some R&R time over the holidays.  It’s the perfect excuse to kick back and relax, no matter if you are celebrating or not.  Any topics that have anything to do with that are ones that are very important and special to me since those who are self-employed or otherwise working as freelancers often get overlooked.

• How to plan a holiday surprise: Is there anything better than a holiday surprise?!  Whether it’s an unexpected gift for a loved one, or something as simple as picking the perfect present for that person that’s impossible to buy for, I love it all.  Plus, it lets me be kinda-sorta a part of the surprise without actually, ya know, being there!

One of the best parts of being a freelance writer over the holidays is that I get to be part of other people’s joy and celebration, even if it’s just through a blog post written for someone else.  That’s probably why it’s my favourite time of year as a professional writer and as an individual who enjoys the little things.
