Some think the website is dead in terms of its use in business, but the reality is that it is just evolving into a new form (much like everything online).  Creating professional website content can be challenging when you’re working within a medium that seems to be changing every single week.  Here are some tips that can help you make sure you are still creating good quality website content that suits the business needs.

Tips to write compelling website content

As far as specific tips for really specific projects, sharing these would be useless.  They’d just be obsolete in a matter of weeks.  Instead, these general writing tips will help you to stay on top of the changes without having to make huge changes to what you’re doing from project to project.

  • See each website as brand new: Even if you’ve done 4 other websites for the same niche of business, forget about them. This client is new, and their website is new, too.  They have different expectations and wants that need to be seen with fresh eyes.  If you want those “fresh eyes” to be yours, you’ll have to make sure that you approach the website content without anything holding you into a certain pattern or way of thinking that is coming from past projects.

  • Follow the brief: Even if it’s really short and simple, most clients can provide some sort of brief that you can use to guide your creation of the web pages.  Even if you don’t agree with the format or technique they’re using, stay focused on the brief.  If there are any red flags, bring them to the attention of your client.  If they say ignore them, ignore them.  At the end of the day (as much as we all may hate this), the customer is always right.  If you simply can’t bring yourself to follow the brief’s instructions, consider turning down the project.

  • Quality of website content always matters: No matter what format or design it is on the page (or what content they’ve decided to have written), its quality is going to matter.  It’s what determines effective SEO, customer satisfaction, and even conversions.  Never lose sight of the fact that what you’re doing will make a difference.  Take pride in the fact that you are helping create a website that is going to be the best form of itself possible because of your professional skills.

Take it one day at a time

Whether it’s working with a difficult customer or on a website that seems to have a million little details to remember, just focus on what the job is.  You already know how to write professional website content, and that’s the most important detail for the job.  The rest is just listening to the client and giving them a final product that is going to look how they want it to.

Do you have any tips you’d like to share that always help you create website content that pleases the client?  Feel free to share below!
