We’ve all been tempted by the candy in the check-out lane or the “customers also bought” section in our favourite online shops. The same exists for business content writing! I must admit that I’m always surprised by the add-ons that people select the most, but the results don’t lie! Below, we’ll get into the most popular purchases and requests that I get from my customers. Any guesses before we begin?
Popular add-ons for an SEO writer
Over the years, these are the most popular extras that I’ve offered as a freelance business writer. These are also very enjoyable tasks that help me make the finished product stronger, which is what the goal should be each time!
- Keyword research: Even though I’m an SEO writer, I don’t offer keyword research in my base package. This is because there are some who already do that work themselves, or they are working with an SEO team that is going to offer a more professional version of this. For those who want it, I’m proud to provide my own carefully researched list of keywords using search tools and a touch of competitor research for good measure.
- Competitor research: As someone who loves to research, providing competitor research for my customers who want it is something I always really look forward to! Not only is it great to know what’s out there for competition, but it’s essential for filling a need properly in the world of digital marketing. From provided products or services to the tone of voice used to details on that ideal reader, it’s all going to help make my client’s final deliverable as professional as possible.
- Content edit/audit: I’m not an editor, as I spoke about in my Grammarly review. However, I do have some clients who come to me looking specifically for a content edit or audit. A content edit is more for streamlining a piece of business writing and helping adjust it to better suit the ideal reader’s needs. A content audit is for taking a professional look at the content and seeing if there is anything that should be adjusted, added, or redone to help it be the best it can be. A content audit can also include an SEO audit if the client also wants that. It’s nice to know that all of that time spent in critique groups was worth something (don’t get me started on that topic again, guys)!
Great side options to consider
If you’re reading this and you, yourself, are a freelance writer, you can use these suggestions to help add a few extra tidbits to your own ordering experience, too. Make sure you update and adjust your add-on options over time, too. You might find that these adjust if you specialize in a niche or you add more services to your freelancing business. Let your customers guide your experience!
